There are times when a dental emergency hits you out of the blue, or at least feels like it does. When this happens, the pain can be excruciating, and you need immediate relief.
Unfortunately, many dental practices don’t offer emergency services, forcing you to wait before receiving the pain-relieving treatment you need. This can be especially bad for those needing an emergency root canal. That’s why at Surrey Place Dental Group, we offer patients extended business hours, same-day emergency services, and several incredible dental professionals capable of providing much-needed pain-relieving treatments.
Our six exceptional dentists are here for you if you need immediate services such as emergency root canals.
“Root Canal” is two words that give most dental patients goosebumps. However, this treatment is vital to providing lasting pain relief for patients with a badly infected tooth or teeth. Root canal therapy is invasive, but the benefits far outweigh any discomfort as it can save teeth from being lost to decay or damage while relieving pain.
The treatment is relatively straightforward. Beneath your tooth lies the “pulp,” consisting of nerves and blood vessels. Once your pulp becomes damaged or infected, a dentist needs to remove the infected tissue before cleaning and sealing the area.
Your dentist would begin by making an opening, usually at the top of your tooth (also known as the crown), which allows us to access the root canals and pulp chamber.
Next, they will perform a pulpectomy, which involves removing the damaged tissue from within the pulp chamber before disinfecting the area to kill any leftover harmful bacteria. Once that’s complete, they will help prevent future infections by sealing your tooth using gutta-percha.
Finally, your dentist will complete treatment by restoring your tooth using a temporary filling to seal the access hole made during treatment. That said, your tooth may lose strength after this treatment, so we recommend placing a permanent crown over the tooth for additional support and stability.
